Analysis Of The Movie Stranger Things - 1094 Words

Stranger Things, a Netflix TV show released in 2016, takes place in a early 1980’s era where gender norms play a pivotal role in day to day life for the characters on the show. The town of Hawkins is strangely affected by a series of people gone missing. Will Byers is the first, that is shown to go missing. His friends Dustin, Mike and Lucas are set out to find their best friend. While out searching for Will, they stumble upon a young mysterious androgynous child running from something. Later on in the show we will find out that this person is biologically a girl and will name herself Eleven. Eleven is a character that the viewer can easily dissect her gender conflicts throughout the entirety of the show. I believe it’s easy to argue that Eleven plays an oppositional gender role throughout Stranger Thing’s story. For example, Eleven’s name is just a number with no gender associated with it. Making for an interesting argument the role of gender norms in the show. Aswell, scenes throughout the show depict Eleven learning gender roles, and later showing her struggles with her own gender identity and supernatural powers alike. As Stranger things develops, the viewer finds out that Eleven is a young child raised as a military experiment hidden away from all of society. So keep in mind Eleven is not aware of the socially constructed gender norms that society ingrains into children at a very young age. As Eleven escapes the Military base she is found by Mike, Dustin and LucasShow MoreRelatedLe Quai Des Brumes Sequence Analysis1557 Words   |  7 PagesLe Quai Des Brumes Sequence Analysis- The Power of Love People say that love is something extremely powerful and miraculous; it is a language that the blind can see and the deaf can hear.
